The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police has questioned Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty for approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. This interrogation was conducted in connection with a 60 crore rupee fraud case, which names several individuals including Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra.
Entertainment News: The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police interrogated Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty for about four and a half hours in a case involving the alleged fraud of 60 crore rupees against a businessman. So far, statements from five individuals, including Shilpa's husband Raj Kundra, have been recorded in this high-profile case. The investigating agency's focus is now on the company through which the entire transaction took place. Both Shilpa and Raj Kundra were directors in this company, which establishes their direct connection to the case.
What is the case?
It is alleged that businessman Deepak Kothari suffered a loss of approximately 60 crore rupees through a loan-cum-investment deal orchestrated by the Shilpa-Raj couple. Kothari had filed a complaint at Juhu Police Station in August 2025. Subsequently, the EOW took over the investigation of the case. During the probe, the agency examined several financial documents and bank transactions. The EOW's focus in this case is on the company through which this entire transaction occurred. Both Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra were directors in that company.
The company involved in the case was a home shopping and online retail platform. This company was established a few years ago and has now gone into liquidation. The EOW also recorded the statement of Resolution Professional Rajendra Bhutada, who was associated with this company. He stated that he was called as a witness and provided the agency with information about several irregularities in the company's financial transactions.
Raj Kundra's Statement
During questioning, Raj Kundra claimed that some amounts were paid to Bollywood celebrities such as Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia, and Ekta Kapoor as professional fees. However, according to officials, it is not yet clear whether these payments were directly related to the investment deal or merely a pretext. The EOW posed several questions to Shilpa Shetty concerning her role in the company, her involvement in investment decisions, and her signatures on financial documents.
According to sources, Shilpa described herself as a “silent partner” and stated that all operational decisions of the company were made by her husband, Raj Kundra. While this statement sheds light on Shilpa's role, the agency is still investigating the extent of her involvement in investments and transactions.
