The Sonbhadra district administration has sent a proposal worth ₹6.73 crore to the Directorate of Sports for the modernization and redevelopment of Tiyara Stadium. Construction work will begin after the budget is approved, with the project aimed at providing players with modern sports facilities and improved training infrastructure.
According to the proposal, several sections of Tiyara Stadium will be redeveloped. The pavilion building will be renovated to improve facilities for players and officials, while the long-damaged roof will also be repaired as part of the project. The spectator gallery will be strengthened to provide safer and improved seating during competitions.
The proposal also includes installing barbed-wire fencing along the boundary wall to enhance security within the stadium premises. Hostels and other buildings will be repainted and refurbished to give them a renewed appearance. These works are intended to improve the overall structure and organization of the stadium.
A key component of the project is the development of modern sports infrastructure for athletes. The proposal includes fencing and synthetic flooring for the volleyball court to provide players with improved practice conditions. It also proposes the development of a world-class hockey turf for hockey players, enabling athletes from the district to access modern training facilities comparable to those available in larger cities.
The plan also focuses on improving the drainage system to address waterlogging on the playing field during the rainy season through the construction of a modern drainage network. A rainwater harvesting system will also be installed for water conservation. In addition, necessary furniture and other facilities will be provided to meet the requirements of players.
The district administration has submitted the detailed ₹6.73 crore proposal to the Directorate of Sports and is awaiting budget approval. Officials said all development works will be undertaken in phases once approval is granted. They added that quality standards and project timelines will be closely monitored during construction so that players can access the upgraded facilities at the earliest.
The administration said the modernization of the stadium is expected to provide players in Sonbhadra with improved training facilities within the district, helping them prepare for national and international competitions. The upgraded sports complex is also expected to facilitate the organisation of various sporting events, providing local athletes with additional opportunities to showcase their talent.
District Magistrate Charchit Gaur said the objective of the project is not only to repair existing buildings but to develop Tiyara Stadium into a modern sports centre. He said that if the proposal receives early approval, the stadium could become an important sports centre for players from Sonbhadra as well as neighbouring districts, while promoting sports culture in the district and providing better sports facilities for young athletes.
