Sonipat: Police have arrested four students in connection with the murder of 18-year-old student Mandeep. The police identified the accused based on CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. Preliminary investigation revealed that the dispute started over a female student's Instagram ID, leading to a confrontation between two groups of students. Following the incident, the investigation has now been handed over to the CIA.
Student Murder in Sonipat
18-year-old Mandeep, who was studying while staying at his sister's house in Shahzadpur village, Sonipat, was walking on Sarang Road in front of Sant Shiromani Namdev Park on Saturday afternoon. During this time, a dispute arose between two groups over female students' Instagram IDs. Finding Mandeep alone after the dispute, the opposing group attacked him.
The accused used sticks and knives in the attack. Critically injured Mandeep was immediately taken to the hospital, but he died during treatment. Based on his father's complaint, the police registered a case under the murder section. Investigation of CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas revealed that the murder occurred between groups connected to the students' coaching center.
Identification of Arrested Accused
Police have identified and arrested four accused. The arrested students include Monu alias Kera and Dev from Salimpur Majra, Sagar alias Gogi from Tihar Khurd, and Ankush from Sisana. All the accused and the deceased student are enrolled at Galaxy Coaching Center located at Subhash Chowk.
The police had deployed four teams for the arrests, and the accused will now be presented in court. The search for other accused is still ongoing. Police stated that given the seriousness of the case, the investigation has now been handed over to the CIA to ensure an impartial inquiry into every aspect.
Dispute Started Over Social Media Controversy
During police interrogation, the accused confessed that the murder originated from a dispute over a female student's social media account ID. Mandeep also became involved in the argument over providing the ID, and when the groups confronted each other, the dispute escalated.
During the altercation, the accused severely injured Mandeep using knives and sticks. People present at the scene immediately informed the police, but despite being rushed to the hospital, the student succumbed to his injuries. The incident has created an atmosphere of grief and fear in the area.
Police Investigation Commences
Sonipat Police recorded statements from the deceased's family and commenced investigation of the crime scene along with examining CCTV footage. The district administration also directed all concerned officials to remain vigilant, considering the seriousness of the case.
The police stated that separate teams have been formed for the arrest of the remaining accused. Officials are ensuring that the culprits are apprehended as soon as possible and that surveillance is increased at coaching centers and surrounding areas to prevent violence among students.
