A shocking incident of smoking on an international flight to Mumbai has come to light. A passenger smoked an e-cigarette in the toilet of SpiceJet flight SG-60, which was en route from Dubai to Mumbai, causing a stir among crew members and other passengers.
The incident occurred on Monday around 10 PM, while the flight was in the air. Senior cabin crew member Mahesh Lola noticed a cigarette-like smell near the toilet. As per aviation regulations, smoking is strictly prohibited during flights, and warning signs are displayed inside the flight. Passengers were already informed about this by the crew.
Passenger Confesses to Smoking Allegation
When Mahesh Lola questioned Murtaza Raali Khan, seated in seat 1K, based on suspicion, he admitted to using an e-cigarette in the toilet. Khan also showed a green-colored e-cigarette, which was immediately confiscated. The incident was then reported to the pilot as per aviation protocol, and airport authorities were informed before landing.
Action Initiated Immediately After Landing
As soon as the aircraft reached Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Terminal 2) in Mumbai, the SpiceJet security personnel on duty were informed about the incident. SpiceJet Airlines Duty Manager Chandrakant Sonawane filed an official complaint against Murtaza Khan. The airline took the matter seriously and, considering it a security breach, immediately informed the police.
Case Registered Under BNS and Aircraft Rules
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against Murtaza Khan at the nearby Sahar Police Station under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937. An officer from Sahar Police confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused, and he has also been issued a notice to appear before the police for further investigation.
Passengers on the Flight Were Also Upset
Other passengers on the flight were also alarmed after this incident. Passengers described the act of smoking during the flight as irresponsible and a security threat. Many expressed their displeasure and demanded strict action.
SpiceJet has stated that no compromise will be tolerated with security, and appropriate legal action will be taken against any passenger who violates the rules. Currently, the police are investigating the matter, and the accused is being questioned.
