Sultanpur/Khushalpur Uturi — On Friday night around 8:40 PM, a fatal accident occurred near Khushalpur Uturi village, alongside the Sultanpur-Prayagraj Highway, which claimed the life of Head Constable Harendra Kumar of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

According to information, a Bolero vehicle, reportedly belonging to the Sales Tax Department, was parked on the highway's edge when a Magic vehicle, approaching from the same direction, collided with it from behind with such force that the Bolero was severely damaged. Immediately after the accident, local residents and police arrived at the scene. Seriously injured Harendra was taken to Sultanpur District Hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Prabodh Kumar, in-charge of Pratyapganj Police Post, who reached the scene, stated that both vehicles have been impounded. Akhanddev, the Kotwal of Dehat Kotwali, confirmed that a case has been registered and further legal proceedings have commenced.

Harendra Kumar, a resident of Kushinagar, was reportedly around 45 years old. This unexpected tragedy has caused immense grief and turmoil within his family.

This combination of a parked vehicle on the road and high speed once again raises the question: Why is the safety of vehicles parked alongside highways not being ensured? Are adequate road signs and safety measures in place? Police stated that the driver of the Magic vehicle involved in the collision has been detained for questioning. Investigations are underway to determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or if the vehicle was out of control due to excessive speed.

The local administration has also assured that safety barriers, warning signs, and enhanced lighting will be provided for vehicles parked on the highway, especially during nighttime.
