The attack on former minister Swami Prasad Maurya in Raebareli has taken a new turn. The youth who carried out the attack received an INR 1.1 million cheque, but the bank stopped the payment due to overwriting on it. Uttar Pradesh: On August 6, 2025, during a welcome ceremony held in Raebareli, a young man suddenly attacked former cabinet minister and National President of Apni Janta Party, Swami Prasad Maurya. Following the incident, Ashish Tiwari from the Salon area honored the attacker with a cheque of INR 1.1 million and also announced a larger reward of INR 2.1 million. However, the bank found overwriting on the cheque and stopped the payment. This dispute has sparked political recriminations and heated debates on social media.

Incident and Announcement of Reward

Former Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister and National President of Apni Janta Party, Swami Prasad Maurya, was attacked on August 6, 2025, in the Civil Lines area of Raebareli. A youth struck him on the head from behind during his welcome program. After this incident, Ashish Tiwari from the Salon police station area honored the attacker, Rohit Dwivedi, with a cheque of INR 1.1 million and announced that anyone who hits Maurya with a shoe would receive a reward of INR 2.1 million. Tiwari stated that he took this step in protest against the insult of Sanatan Dharma.

Matter Entangled in Cheque Dispute

The INR 1.1 million cheque given to the attacker is now embroiled in controversy. According to bank officials, payment has been stopped because of overwriting on the cheque. Due to this, the cheque is currently ineffective, and its legal status is also being discussed. This matter has sparked a heated debate from the local level to social media, where people are questioning the legality and intent of this reward.

Maurya's Statement and Political Reaction

Immediately after the attack, Swami Prasad Maurya made serious allegations against the Yogi government. He said that the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh is very poor and attacks are taking place even in the presence of the police. Maurya accused the government of 'goonda raj' and giving leeway to certain castes. Meanwhile, the opposition has also attacked the government, linking the matter to the failure of law and order. The police are currently investigating both the attack and the cheque-related dispute.
