In a major operation in Telangana, 37 Maoists surrendered before DGP B. Shivdhar Reddy. All, including three top committee members, handed over heavy weapons. The DGP stated that they included members of the State Committee, Divisional Committee, and Area Committee.

Telangana: A highly significant event has unfolded in Telangana, set to change the security landscape. A total of 37 Maoists, active in various parts of the state, came forward simultaneously and formally surrendered before Telangana Police DGP B. Shivdhar Reddy. This surrender is considered a major step towards strengthening law and order and fostering a peaceful environment in the state.

A total reward of 1.40 crore rupees had been declared for all of them, indicating that many involved were long sought by the police and held significant responsibilities within the organization. During the surrender, all Maoists acknowledged their desire to abandon violence and lead normal lives, accepting the government's appeal to return to the mainstream.

Detailed Surrender Process Before the DGP

The surrender program was held at the Telangana Police Headquarters, where DGP B. Shivdhar Reddy led the entire process. He informed that among those who surrendered were several senior members of the organization who had played active roles in the strategy and operations of the Maoist network for many years. During the surrender process, the Maoists expressed their views, stating that they now wish to return to the mainstream due to continuously escalating police operations, declining morale within the organization, and internal differences.

Top Committee Members Also Among Those Who Surrendered

This surrender is considered even more significant because it includes three Maoists from the top committee level. These three played crucial roles in orchestrating many Maoist campaigns and activities. They include Koyyada Sambaiah alias Azad, Appasi Narayan alias Ramesh, and Muchaki Somada.

Sambaiah and Narayan were associated with the Telangana State Committee, while Somada was a member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, considered one of the best Maoist structures active in Chhattisgarh and surrounding regions. Large rewards had been declared for these Maoists, and security agencies had been searching for them for a long time. Their surrender is seen as a decisive blow to the organization, as weakening the top leadership impacts the entire network.

A Large Cache of Weapons Also Handed Over with the Surrender

During the surrender, the Maoists also handed over the heavy weapons in their possession to the DGP. These weapons included one AK-47 rifle, two SLR rifles, four .303 rifles, one G3 rifle, and approximately 346 live cartridges. The handing over of such a large and deadly cache of weapons to the police indicates that the Maoists are now serious about abandoning violence and embracing a peaceful life. For years, many Maoists used these very weapons in forest areas to attack security forces and carry out their activities. The surrender of such weapons is considered a significant relief measure for state security.

Government's Appeal

Telangana's DGP stated that the continuous public messages and appeals to return to the mainstream made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy are clearly visible in the surrender. The Chief Minister has repeatedly stated that any Maoist willing to abandon the path of violence will find the government ready for their rehabilitation and a safe life. Furthermore, serious disagreements, ideological differences, and a lack of leadership within the Maoist organization have rapidly increased in recent years. Police pressure in many areas and ongoing anti-Naxal operations have also weakened the morale of the Maoist organization.

Recent Events Also Increased Pressure for Surrender

A few days ago, Hidma, a highly notorious and dangerous Maoist, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Andhra Pradesh. A reward of 1 crore rupees was placed on Hidma, who was considered the mastermind behind the most violent operations of Naxalite activities. His death dealt a major blow to the Maoist network, as Hidma had worked for many years to strengthen the organization, carry out attacks, and train newly recruited cadres. Hidma, his wife, and five other Maoists were recently neutralized by security forces.
