Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) legislators-elect Maragatham Kumaravel and P. Sathyabama took oath as members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Monday, October 12, 2026, following their victories in by-elections. The oath-taking ceremony took place in the presence of Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar.
With the induction of the two legislators, TVK's strength in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly has risen to 109.
Kumaravel was elected from the Madurantakam Assembly constituency, while Sathyabama won the Dharapuram seat. Both constituencies are reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC).
The oath-taking ceremony completed the formal legislative process following the by-election victories of the two candidates. Both legislators can now participate in Assembly proceedings and represent their respective constituencies.
The two by-elections were held after the previous AIADMK legislators representing the constituencies resigned from the Assembly and left the party before joining the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. TVK subsequently fielded both leaders from the respective constituencies, where they secured victories in the by-elections.
Madurantakam and Dharapuram are constituencies in Tamil Nadu with seats reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. Following the election and oath-taking, Kumaravel and Sathyabama have formally assumed their roles as representatives of the two constituencies in the state legislature.
