Two young men were killed in a road accident in Rajasthan's Dungarpur district on Friday morning after a speeding bus collided with their motorcycle on Shastri Colony Road, police said.

According to police, the two men were travelling by motorcycle to attend the funeral of an acquaintance when the accident occurred on the road connecting the bus stand to Tehsil Chauraha. After the collision, both riders fell onto the road and the rear wheel of the bus ran over their heads, resulting in fatal injuries. Both were declared dead at the scene.

The deceased were identified as Naresh, a resident of Kherwara, and Gopal, a resident of Salumbar.

Kotwali police said the accident took place in front of Mewar Furniture. According to eyewitness information, the motorcycle lost balance after being hit by the bus, causing both riders to fall onto the road before the rear wheel passed over them.

Local residents informed the police and ambulance services immediately after the accident. Police and medical personnel reached the spot, but both victims had already died. The bodies were sent to the mortuary at Dungarpur District Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The bus driver fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the accident. Police have registered a case and begun searching for the driver. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined as officials attempt to identify the bus. Police said efforts are underway to locate the driver, who will face legal action upon arrest.

The accident disrupted traffic on the road between the bus stand and Tehsil Chauraha, resulting in a prolonged traffic jam. Police diverted traffic through an alternate lane before normal movement was restored.

Kotwali police have inspected the accident site and collected evidence. According to officials, a detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident, including the speed of the bus and whether the driver violated traffic regulations.

Police said the bodies will be handed over to the families after the post-mortem examination.

Following the incident, local residents urged the administration to arrest the driver at the earliest and strengthen traffic management in the area. They said multiple accidents had occurred on the route previously and called for additional road safety measures and traffic control.

Police appealed to members of the public to share any videos, CCTV footage or other information related to the accident with investigating agencies to assist in identifying and apprehending the driver.

The administration also appealed to motorists to maintain safe speeds and follow traffic regulations to help prevent similar accidents.
