Uddhav Thackeray Holds Secret Meeting Amidst Maharashtra Political Upheaval

Maharashtra's political landscape is currently witnessing heightened activity. Amidst this, Uddhav Thackeray, leader of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), held a crucial meeting with the party's MPs and MLAs on the night of Friday, June 20th, at a hotel in a Mumbai suburb.

Mumbai: Amidst the buzz surrounding the upcoming local body and assembly elections in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray employed a significant, yet low-profile, "dinner diplomacy." This dinner, held on Friday night at a private hotel in a Mumbai suburb, was essentially a strategic political meeting bringing together the party's MPs, MLAs, and MLCs.

The Meeting's Secrecy and Political Message

The meeting's location—a private hotel rather than a formal press conference or party headquarters—clearly indicates Uddhav Thackeray's intention to keep his strategies away from public debate. This "secret dinner" is also being seen as a demonstration of party unity, especially at a time when the Eknath Shinde faction is continuously attempting to undermine UBT leaders.

Farmers' Issues and Targeting the Central Government

  • Senior leader and South Central Mumbai MP Anil Desai, who was present at the meeting, reported that the gathering involved serious discussions about farmers' problems and the failures of government policies.
  • MLAs alleged that the Maharashtra government's loan waiver schemes have remained merely on paper.
  • Concerns were raised regarding crop damage, delays in insurance payments, and farmer suicides reported from various parts of the state.
  • The party decided to bly raise the farmers' concerns in the Assembly and Lok Sabha.

'Operation Sindur' Initiative for Women's Empowerment

The meeting also discussed "Operation Sindur," a program the party described as a major initiative for women's empowerment.
Under this campaign, Shiv Sena UBT women workers are being encouraged to participate in schemes related to social justice, security, education, and health. Uddhav Thackeray publicly commended this initiative, stating that it will further strengthen the role of women in future politics.

Accusations of Suppressing the Opposition's Voice in Lok Sabha

The meeting also saw sharp criticism of the central government. MPs stated that the opposition is not being given a chance to speak in Parliament. They described the government's attitude in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha as highly authoritarian, alleging attacks on the country's constitutional values and disregard for parliamentary decorum by the ruling party. It was decided that this issue would be forcefully raised in upcoming parliamentary sessions.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of an alliance with Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
While no official announcement was made, it's clear that Uddhav Thackeray is considering all options to strengthen his opposition against the BJP-Shinde faction.

Recent improvements in relations between Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have fueled speculation that they might contest the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections together.
