Ujjain Authority Demolishes Houses Amidst Protests Over Lease Violations

Ujjain Administration Demolishes Two Houses in Begambag Area

MP News: The Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) demolished two houses in the Begambag area of Ujjain city using a JCB. This action was taken due to alleged lease violations. The administration decided to remove the houses after a High Court stay was lifted. This area is considered highly sensitive due to its proximity to the Mahakaleshwar Temple. Local members of the Muslim community protested, but the administration controlled the situation through dialogue with community elders and completed the demolition.

Demolition Due to Lease Violations

Houses numbered 49 and 55 in the Begambag area were declared illegal by the Ujjain Development Authority due to lease violations. These houses were being used commercially, despite the area being designated residential. Some individuals violated regulations by selling these properties or starting commercial activities like hotels. The authority canceled their leases in September 2024. Following the lifting of the High Court stay, the administration expedited the demolition process.

Demolition Despite Protests

When the administration team arrived with a JCB and police force on Friday morning, local residents protested. Residents of this Muslim-majority area opposed the action. However, to prevent the situation from escalating, the administration engaged in dialogue with community elders. Following the discussions, the residents cooperated with the administration, and both houses were demolished.

Administration's Stance – Adherence to Regulations is Mandatory

Ujjain Development Authority CEO Sandeep Soni explained that the Begambag area was established years ago under a residential scheme. However, some individuals violated regulations by using these spaces commercially. This is against the rules, and the authority had no option but to take strict action against these illegal constructions.

He further stated that 28 more properties have had their leases canceled, but action against them is pending due to ongoing court cases. He also indicated that strict action will be taken against future violators.

Security Arrangements and Administrative Vigilance

150 police personnel were deployed to manage the situation. Senior administrative officials, including SDM L.N. Garg and Additional SP Nitesh Bhargav, were also present. Complete vigilance was maintained to prevent any untoward incident during the demolition.

Significance of Begambag Area and the Administration's Responsibility

Located near the Mahakaleshwar Temple, Begambag is religiously and socially significant. Therefore, any action here requires careful consideration. The administration clarified that violations will not be tolerated, regardless of community. Everyone must operate within the confines of the law.
