The situation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, ongoing for three years, is becoming more serious day by day, and efforts for peace talks currently appear less effective.
Washington: The Russia-Ukraine War has been ongoing for three years, and a permanent solution has yet to emerge. In the meantime, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that he will meet with US President Donald Trump and European leaders next week to accelerate peace restoration efforts.
Zelensky has accused Russia of not showing seriousness in peace talks and deliberately stalling the process. He stated that Ukraine is fully prepared to end the war, but Moscow is consistently undermining the talks through airstrikes and military actions.
Important Meeting Held in New York
Head of the Ukrainian President's Office, Andriy Yermak, met with Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in New York. The main agenda of this meeting was to implement the agreement reached at the Washington Summit and to advance diplomacy. Yermak said, "Our goal is to see real progress on a ceasefire.
However, President Putin is not showing interest in talks even after his meeting with Trump in Alaska." He alleged that Russia is deliberately prolonging the situation and not taking the necessary steps to end the conflict.
Zelensky Announces Meetings in Europe
Zelensky announced that he will have several meetings with European leaders next week. These will include leaders from France, Germany, and other major countries. Ukraine has already supported the ceasefire plan proposed by the United States, and Zelensky has stated that he is also willing to meet Putin directly. However, objections have been raised by Russia. Moscow states that Ukraine must first accept the "terms of the ceasefire."
It is noteworthy that over the past three years, Ukraine has made peace talk attempts in countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, Switzerland, and the United States, but concrete results have not been achieved.
Trump's Stance and Displeasure with Putin
US President Donald Trump recently issued a stern warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stated that if a clear direction for peace talks is not established soon, he will formulate further strategy within two weeks. However, Trump also expressed concern over Ukraine's retaliatory actions. In a major Russian attack last week, 23 Ukrainian civilians were killed.
Despite this, the White House did not directly condemn it. A spokesperson stated that Ukraine has also attacked several Russian oil refineries, which is further complicating the situation.
