Uttar Pradesh Doubles Maintenance Allowance for Persons with Disabilities

Uttar Pradesh Doubles Maintenance Allowance for Persons with Disabilities

The Uttar Pradesh government has increased the maintenance allowance for persons with disabilities from ₹2000 to ₹4000 per month. This decision has been implemented from August 7, 2025. The government's objective is to ensure the social and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities.

CM Yogi: The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has taken a significant and commendable step towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities. The state government has doubled the maintenance allowance provided to persons with disabilities residing in special schools and shelter institutions. Previously, this amount was ₹2000 per month, which has now been increased to ₹4000. This order has come into effect from Wednesday and will benefit thousands of disabled children and their families.

Respecting the Dignity of Persons with Disabilities

This decision of the state government is not limited to financial assistance, but it is also indicative of sensitivity towards persons with disabilities and the intention to maintain their self-respect. Narendra Kashyap, Minister of Disability Welfare (Independent Charge), said that the Yogi government is committed to the social, educational, and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities. This allowance increase is a clear example of the government's approach to bring all sections of society together.

Instructions Issued to All Districts

The order related to the increase in allowance has been formally issued by the government. Under the new government order issued by Principal Secretary Subhash Chandra Sharma, all District Magistrates, Commissioners, District Disability Empowerment Officers, Principals of special schools, and other concerned officials have been instructed to ensure that beneficiaries receive the increased allowance on time. This new system has been implemented by amending the old government order, which came into effect on April 25, 2016. The government has clarified that the direct benefit of this amount will only be given to those persons with disabilities who are residing in special schools or government/recognized institutions.

Another Step Towards Self-Reliance

The government's objective is not only to provide assistance to persons with disabilities but also to make them self-reliant. In this sequence, a special Divyangjan Employment Campaign has been started by the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission from August 6 to August 13. Mission Director Pulkit Khare said that through this campaign, employment opportunities will be provided to trained persons with disabilities. Priority will be given to persons with disabilities who have received education from ITIs and other skill training centers.

A special feature is that those persons with disabilities who have not yet been associated with any training will also be included in this employment campaign. Such people can register by visiting the Disability Empowerment Officer's office in their district. This initiative is a major step towards bringing people standing on the margins of society into the mainstream and making them self-reliant.

Government's Long-Term Vision

This initiative of the Yogi government once again proves that social justice and inclusive development are at the top of its administrative values. Whether it is doubling the allowance for persons with disabilities or providing them with employment opportunities—all these decisions are not just announcements of schemes, but they are being effectively implemented at the ground level. In the current economic circumstances where inflation is increasing, this increase in allowance will provide relief to persons with disabilities and their families.
