Dehradun: A historic step has been taken towards promoting religious tourism in Uttarakhand. Significant progress has been made regarding the establishment of the country's largest ropeway project in the state. This ropeway will be constructed from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib. With the help of this ropeway, the journey for pilgrims will become much easier and safer. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that this plan will further strengthen religious faith and open new opportunities in the tourism sector.
Significance of Hemkund Sahib
Hemkund Sahib is a very sacred pilgrimage site for Sikhism. It is situated at an altitude of 4,329 meters above sea level and reaching there has always been challenging. Until now, devotees had to contend with rugged paths and long journeys. Many people were unable to complete the journey due to health issues. The proposed ropeway will overcome this difficulty and make this journey simple and accessible for millions of devotees.
Cost and Technical Information
The proposed ropeway from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib will be 12.4 kilometers long. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 2,730.13 crore. It is considered the country's largest ropeway project. An agreement worth approximately seven thousand crore rupees has been made between the central government and the state government regarding this project. The construction work will be carried out with the joint collaboration of National Highways Logistics & Construction Limited and the state government. A special purpose vehicle has also been formed for this.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that continuous efforts are being made to promote religious tourism under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This project will not only ease the journey for devotees but will also create new economic opportunities for the local residents of Uttarakhand. Increased tourism will directly benefit local businesses, the hotel industry, and the transport sector.

Narinder Jit Singh Bindrha, Chairman of the Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, along with other Sikh organizations, met Chief Minister Dhami and expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the state government. Bindrha said that this ropeway will alleviate the long-standing difficulties faced by devotees. Now people will be able to travel safely and comfortably. It will also serve as a medium for employment and social prosperity for the local people.
