Uttarakhand Hit by Pre-Monsoon Rains, Causing Widespread Disruption

Pre-monsoon rains have begun in Uttarakhand, disrupting life in Nainital, Mussoorie, and Pithoragarh. Heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging, power outages, and debris entering shops, resulting in significant damage.

Nanital: Pre-monsoon rains have arrived in Uttarakhand. Heavy rainfall has been reported since morning in the Kumaon region's Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar districts, impacting daily life. In Nainital, torrential rain disrupted power supply and led to waterlogging on roads. The weather also changed in the Garhwal Mandal, with rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Mussoorie, Haridwar, and several other areas.

Rising Water Levels in Nainital Lakes

Heavy pre-monsoon rain started in Nainital around 9:30 AM on Friday. Continuous rainfall caused water levels in the lakes to rise. Roads were flooded, and garbage was seen flowing rapidly through the drains. Debris from the rain entered shops and hotels in the Zoo Road and Tallital Bazaar areas, causing losses to businesses.

Power Outages and Traffic Disruptions

The rain affected Nainital's power supply, with several areas experiencing hours-long outages. Waterlogging also hampered movement, causing significant inconvenience to schoolchildren and employees. Flooded roads made walking and driving difficult.

Cloudy Skies over Pithoragarh and Bageshwar

Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts experienced cloudy skies and intermittent rain, accompanied by fog, leading to a drop in temperature. Haldwani also saw cool breezes and cloudy skies in the morning. Light drizzle brought relief from the heat. Mussoorie in Garhwal Mandal also experienced a change in weather, with over an hour of heavy rain on Friday. This rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, caused some inconvenience to tourists but also provided relief from the heat.

Waterlogging in Haridwar

Torrential rain in Haridwar on Friday led to waterlogging in several areas. Water accumulated under the railway bridge near Bhagat Singh Chowk, slowing traffic. Cloudy skies and the possibility of rain persisted in Uttarkashi district headquarters and all tehsil areas.

Weather Changes in Kotdwar and Chamoli

Kotdwar experienced rain with b winds, leading to a temperature drop. However, Chamoli enjoyed clear skies and sunshine throughout the day, allowing the Badrinath pilgrimage to continue without interruption. Following heavy rainfall in several parts of the state, the administration has initiated alert measures. Water drainage systems are being implemented in waterlogged areas, and efforts to restore power are underway. The administration is actively assisting those stranded in tourist areas.
