Vaani Kapoor's film 'Abeer Gulal', co-starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, could not be released on schedule this year due to the Pahalgam attack. Following the attack, the atmosphere in India became sensitive towards Pakistani artists, leading to the postponement of the film's release.
Vaani Kapoor On Sardaar Ji 3: Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh's recently released film 'Sardaar Ji 3', Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor has issued a b statement defending the film. Due to the presence of Pakistani artist Hania Aamir, there were demands to boycott the film, leading to its non-release in India. However, the film is receiving a good response abroad. Vaani Kapoor, who was recently in the news regarding her film 'Abeer Gulal', openly expressed her opinion about 'Sardaar Ji 3' in an interview with NDTV.
Film Not Releasing Will Hurt the Producer: Vaani Kapoor
Vaani Kapoor said,
'I remember that this film was shot before the Pahalgam attack. The circumstances were different when the shooting was going on. I think if the film doesn't get released, it will affect more than 100 people connected to the film, especially the producers, who have invested a lot in it.'
She says that everyone working on a project in the film industry—artists, technicians, crew members, sponsors—are directly affected when a film is not released.
Called Diljit Dosanjh a 'Global Star'
Responding to questions about Diljit Dosanjh's image, Vaani Kapoor defended him, saying, "Diljit Dosanjh is a global star. His intention cannot be to disrespect the country. He has made a name for himself worldwide and he did what he thought was right." She further added,
'In my opinion, no law has been broken. An artist's job is to play their character and present their art to the world. It is not right to connect them with politics or cross-border tensions.'
Vaani Kapoor's Background with the ‘Abeer Gulal’ Controversy
Vaani Kapoor herself was embroiled in controversy this year in April when her film ‘Abeer Gulal’, which featured Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, was blocked from release in India after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The attack claimed the lives of several tourists, and following this incident, protests erupted against the film for casting an actor from Pakistan.
Due to the controversy, the film did not get a theatrical release in India and was only released on OTT platforms and in some international cinemas. Some sections opposed ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ due to the acting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Hashtags against the film trended on social media, and there were demands not to release it. Consequently, the film was not released in cinemas in India.
