Bal Karve Immortalized as 'Gundyabhau'

Born in Pune, Balkrishna Karve was fondly called 'Bal' Karve. From childhood, he had a deep interest in arts and theatre. However, he chose engineering in his education and built a professional career for a long time. Bal Karve served for 32 years as an engineer in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Despite his work commitments, his heart was always drawn towards theatre and acting. Theatre was not just a hobby for him, but a passion that he lived with complete dedication and hard work. In 1979, the show Chimanrao, broadcast on Marathi television, gave Bal Karve a new identity. In this serial, he played the character of 'Gundyabhau'.

His brilliant comic timing and natural acting impressed the audience so much that even years after the show ended, people continued to call him by that name. Interestingly, this role was initially supposed to go to another actor, but when Bal Karve portrayed it, the character became immortal forever.
