The meeting and public outreach programme called on villagers to unite to protect the interests of Jharkhand and the rights of local people. Speakers said rural participation was necessary in decisions related to the state’s development, resources and local issues, and appealed to people to remain aware of their rights and raise their concerns collectivelyVillagers Urged to Unite to Protect Jharkhand Interests and Local Rights
Speakers said Jharkhand’s identity is linked to its villages, forests, land and natural resources. They said villagers’ views and participation should not be ignored on matters concerning the interests of the state. Villagers were urged to organise around issues affecting their areas and communicate their concerns to the concerned officials and elected representatives.
The meeting also discussed problems arising at the local level. Villagers raised concerns related to roads, drinking water, education, health, employment and basic facilities. Speakers said these problems could be addressed more effectively when villagers collectively present their demands before the administration.
Villagers were told that obtaining information about any development scheme or government project is their right. Speakers said people should keep information about documents and government rules in matters related to land, employment, compensation, displacement and local resources. They also appealed to people to seek information from the concerned department if there is any confusion about a decision.
Villagers were also urged to set aside differences and remain united in the broader interest of the area. According to the speakers, when villagers present their concerns in an organised manner, their voice reaches the administration more effectively.
The meeting also discussed Jharkhand’s natural resources and the interests of local communities. Speakers said the state’s natural resources should be used for development while also taking into account the interests of local people and the environment.
Villagers said several basic problems still exist in rural areas. Many areas need better roads, health centres, schools, irrigation and employment opportunities. Young people have to migrate to other states for employment. Speakers said increasing employment opportunities at the local level should also be part of Jharkhand’s development.
The programme also emphasised the role of young people. Speakers said young people should obtain information about issues related to their villages and panchayats and help ensure that government schemes reach people in need. The need to connect rural youth with education and skill development opportunities was also emphasised.
Women’s participation was also described as important. Speakers said the active participation of women in village development and the resolution of local problems could help in better implementation of schemes. The need to make rural women aware of government schemes and their rights was also emphasised.
The meeting appealed for greater public participation at the panchayat level. Speakers said Gram Sabha meetings and local institutions provide an important platform for villagers to raise their problems. Villagers were therefore urged to participate actively in these meetings and discuss issues related to their areas.
Speakers also said that before adopting the path of protest or agitation over any issue, people should obtain information about the facts and government rules. They said putting forward demands through peaceful and democratic means is a more effective approach.
Amid the call to protect Jharkhand’s interests, villagers were also urged to maintain social unity. Speakers said people should rise above political or personal differences and focus on collective interests for the development of the area.
Villagers said they would formulate a further strategy at their level regarding the problems they face. They said the possibility of resolving village-level problems could increase if these issues are consistently raised before the concerned officials and collective efforts are made.
People present at the programme said problems in rural areas of Jharkhand should not be treated only as election issues. They said development schemes should also be continuously discussed in terms of their monitoring and the actual benefits reaching people.
Speakers appealed to villagers to remain informed about government schemes and lodge complaints with the concerned department if the benefits of any scheme are not reaching eligible people. They said aware citizens can better protect the rights and resources of their areas.
Overall, the programme conveyed a message for villagers to unite over the interests of Jharkhand and the rights of local people. An appeal was also made to collectively raise issues related to education, health, employment, roads, drinking water and basic facilities.
