WhatsApp launches Group Message History feature allowing admins to share up to 100 past messages with new members

WhatsApp hhare 25 to 100 past messages with newly added users. The feature maintains end-to-end encryption, provides transparency with timestamps and sender details, and gives admins full control over its use.

WhatsApp has introduced a new Group Message History feature that allows newly added members to understand prior conversations more easily. The feature is being rolled out globally and enables sharing of selected past messages within groups.

The update allows group admins or members to share between 25 and 100 previous messages with newly added participants. This enables new members to quickly understand the context of ongoing discussions without needing to ask repeated questions.

The feature is designed to improve user experience and reduce time spent catching up on conversations. It is expected to be useful for office, study, and family groups where continuity of discussion is important.

WhatsApp stated that the Group Message History feature retains end-to-end encryption, ensuring that only intended recipients can access the shared messages. Privacy protections remain consistent with existing chat security standards on the platform.

Whenever message history is shared, all group members are notified. Shared messages include timestamps and sender details, providing transparency and reducing the likelihood of misunderstandings.

Group admins have control over whether the feature is enabled within a group. The sharing of message history is not automatic and occurs only when initiated by an admin or a group member.

This ensures that unnecessary or unwanted messages are not shared and that group communication remains controlled and intentional.
