Yogi Adityanath inaugurates IT park in Gorakhpur to promote startup ecosystem

The Uttar Pradesh government has inaugurated an IT park in Gorakhpur under Software Technology Parks of India to support startups, provide infrastructure, and generate local employment opportunities in tier-2 cities.

The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a step toward developing an IT startup ecosystem in Gorakhpur with the inauguration of a new IT park in the GIDA area. The facility has been established as the Gorakhpur centre of Software Technology Parks of India.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the IT park on Thursday. The centre has been developed under Software Technology Parks of India with the objective of promoting the IT industry in tier-2 cities.

According to the government, the project has been launched to provide opportunities for local youth in the technology sector and to strengthen the startup culture in the state.

The IT park has been constructed in Sector-7 of the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) area. Spread over approximately three and a half acres, the facility has been built at a cost of around Rs 20 crore. The project has been developed with the support of Software Technology Parks of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Uttar Pradesh government.

The park provides modern workspaces, high-speed internet connectivity, and essential infrastructure for startups, with the aim of reducing dependence of youth in smaller cities on metropolitan centres.

The facility includes a 50-seat plug-and-play workspace for startups to begin operations immediately. It also provides approximately 6,000 square feet of raw incubation space and an equal area of semi-furnished incubation space. Additional infrastructure includes conference rooms, a network operation system, a cafeteria, an auditorium, and other technical facilities.

The auditorium has a seating capacity of over 50 people and is intended for training sessions and seminars. According to the government, the centre is equipped to support enterprises engaged in IT, IT-enabled services, business process outsourcing, and software development.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the state government aims to promote technological development not only in major cities but also in smaller and medium-sized cities. He said the IT park in Gorakhpur will provide local employment opportunities and create an enabling environment for startups.

The government stated that the initiative is expected to reduce migration of youth outside the state and generate employment locally. Officials said the IT park is likely to accommodate around 36 units. Once operational, these units are expected to generate direct and indirect employment for more than 15,000 people.

Startups in areas such as data processing, software development, remote infrastructure management, business process outsourcing, and digital services are expected to be established at the centre.
