Gold and Silver Prices Decline on MCX Ahead of Holi

Gold and silver prices declined in domestic futures trade on Tuesday, February 24, ahead of Holi, with weakness visible on the Multi Commodity Exchange.

On MCX, the gold futures contract expiring on April 2, 2026 opened at Rs 1,60,769 per 10 grams, compared with the previous close of Rs 1,61,598 per 10 grams. At around 10:05 am, the contract was trading at Rs 1,60,580 per 10 grams, down 0.63 percent or approximately Rs 1,000. During early trade, gold touched a high of Rs 1,61,233 before coming under pressure.

Market experts attributed the decline to profit booking after a recent rally and global cues.

Silver futures also recorded losses. The March 5, 2026 expiry contract on MCX was trading at Rs 2,63,842 per kilogram, down 0.56 percent or Rs 1,491. The contract opened at Rs 2,67,221 and touched an intraday high of Rs 2,67,500 before declining amid increased selling.

In the physical market, 24-carat gold in Delhi was priced at Rs 1,61,510 per 10 grams. The price of 22-carat gold stood at Rs 1,48,060 per 10 grams, while 18-carat gold was selling at Rs 1,21,170 per 10 grams.

In Mumbai, 24-carat gold was priced at Rs 1,61,780 per 10 grams. The rate for 22-carat gold was Rs 1,48,300 per 10 grams and 18-carat gold was at Rs 1,21,340 per 10 grams.

In Chennai, 24-carat gold was quoted at Rs 1,62,440 per 10 grams. The price of 22-carat gold was Rs 1,48,900 per 10 grams, while 18-carat gold was at Rs 1,27,300 per 10 grams.

In Kolkata, 24-carat gold was priced at Rs 1,61,780 per 10 grams and 22-carat gold at Rs 1,48,300 per 10 grams. The rate for 18-carat gold stood at Rs 1,21,340 per 10 grams.

In Ahmedabad, 24-carat gold was quoted at Rs 1,61,830 per 10 grams, 22-carat gold at Rs 1,48,350 per 10 grams and 18-carat gold at Rs 1,21,390 per 10 grams.

In Lucknow, 24-carat gold was priced at Rs 1,61,930 per 10 grams. The rate for 22-carat gold was Rs 1,48,450 per 10 grams and 18-carat gold at Rs 1,21,490 per 10 grams. In Patna, 24-carat gold was at Rs 1,61,830 per 10 grams, 22-carat gold at Rs 1,48,350 per 10 grams and 18-carat gold at Rs 1,21,390 per 10 grams.

In Hyderabad, 24-carat gold was selling at Rs 1,61,780 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold was priced at Rs 1,48,300 per 10 grams and 18-carat gold at Rs 1,21,340 per 10 grams.

For silver in the physical market, 10 grams was priced at Rs 2,850 in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, while 100 grams cost Rs 28,500. In Chennai, the price of 10 grams of silver was Rs 2,900.
