The Pardeshipura police in Indore have busted a sophisticated gang that was defrauding people through the online car rental platform, ZOOM. The police have arrested two accused in this case — Moinuddin and his accomplice, Hanif — who would rent cars and then sell them at discounted prices in villages and remote areas. Based on their identification, the police have recovered a total of 10 vehicles, including Baleno and Swift models, estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees.
The case came to light when Bhawan Saxena, a resident of Indore, filed a complaint at the Pardeshipura police station. He stated that he had registered his car on the ZOOM app to rent it out, and it was booked by a person named Moinuddin. When the car did not return at the agreed time and a day's extension was requested, the complainant became suspicious and immediately informed the police.
Clues from Tracking
The police began investigating with the help of a complaint from the ZOOM company and the car's tracking system. During this, the organized racket, which was exploiting the online car rental system to target people, was exposed.
Initial investigations by the police revealed that this gang specifically targeted vehicle owners who make their cars available for rent on online platforms. The accused would gain trust, rent the cars, and then disappear after selling them.
Search for other individuals linked to the racket continues
The police are currently searching for other members of the gang and conducting an in-depth investigation of the entire network. It is believed that this gang has been carrying out this type of fraud for a long time and may be spread across several states.
The police are now focused on finding out how many cars the racket has sold in this manner and whether similar incidents have occurred in other states. More arrests are likely in this case soon.
