Trump Announces Doubling of Tariffs on Canadian Steel and Aluminum to 25%, While White House Raises Concerns Over High Tariffs on American Wine in India.

Tariff: Former US President Donald Trump's tariff policies have exacerbated the global trade war. He recently announced an increase in tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from Canada, raising them to 50%. Meanwhile, the White House, in a press conference, highlighted tariffs imposed by various countries on American products, specifically mentioning India and Japan.

Why the Increased Tariffs on Canada?

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levit stated that Canada is employing unfair trade practices with the US, causing harm for decades. She said, "President Trump believes in fair trade, but Canada has weakened the American steel and aluminum industry, necessitating the 50% tariff increase." She also mentioned Canada's imposition of a 300% tariff on American dairy products like cheese and butter, significantly harming American producers.

Allegation of 150% Tariff on India

Addressing India in the press conference, Caroline Levit stated that India is imposing a 150% tariff on American wine, resulting in a trade deficit for the US. She questioned, "Do you think this is helping Kentucky bourbon exports to India? I don't think so." Additionally, accusations were made regarding India imposing a 100% tariff on American agricultural products.

Japan Also Targeted

The White House also criticized Japan's trade policies. Caroline Levit stated that Japan's 700% tariff on rice imports is highly detrimental to the US. She indicated that the Trump administration would take action against such unfair trade practices.

Trump's Strong Statement – 'America Has Been Robbed'

In an interview with Fox News, Donald Trump stated that America has been exploited by countries worldwide under the guise of trade. He said, "Every country has taken advantage of America, but that will no longer be allowed." He hinted at the possibility of implementing stricter tariff policies on other countries in the coming days.

Response to India's Reciprocal Tariff Policy?

India recently announced a reciprocal tariff policy, effective April 2nd. Under this policy, India will increase tariffs against countries imposing high tariffs on Indian products. Trump has previously accused India of imposing high tariffs, stating that "selling anything in India is not easy."
