Sukhbir Badal's Political Journey
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working committee recently accepted Sukhbir Singh Badal's resignation. The election for the new party president will be held on March 1st. Having become president in 2008, Sukhbir Badal served the longest tenure in this position. This marks the first time the Badal family has been outside the party leadership. However, given ongoing activities within the party, there is speculation that Sukhbir Badal may be re-elected on March 1st.
SAD Membership Drive Underway
Senior Scheduled Caste leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Gulzar Singh Ranike, has been appointed as the election officer, with Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema serving as secretary. Dr. Cheema stated that the membership drive, ongoing from January 20th to February 20th, aims to recruit 2.5 million new members. Until the election of the new party president on March 1st, acting president Balwinder Singh Bhunder and the parliamentary board will manage the party's affairs.
