To address these issues, the ECI has implemented a new grassroots Training & Rectification Program to prevent future technical or human errors.
Addressing Shortcomings in the Voting Process
The ECI's analysis reveals that most electoral irregularities occur at the booth level—including negligence in voter list preparation, EVM handling, procedural gaps in mock polling, and mismatches in voter turnout data. Therefore, this rectification program begins with intensive training for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
ECI's Goal: Clarity at Every Stage of the Process
The ECI emphasizes that strict regulations govern every electoral procedure. Most irregularities arise from non-compliance with these steps. According to officials, many errors are not intentional but result from a lack of information. These loopholes will now be identified and rectified step-by-step.
Training for Over 50,000 Individuals
The ECI aims to train over 50,000 BLOs and BLAs nationwide by the end of 2025 on election procedures. This training will enhance understanding of guidelines and strengthen credibility at the ground level.
Eliminating Voter List Errors
The ECI's primary focus this time is on the accuracy of voter lists. The commission mandates the presence of representatives from political parties at every booth before the release of the draft voter list, ensuring timely resolution of all objections. This verification process will occur at the booth, district, state, and national levels before final publication.
Few Complaints, but Strict Action
Only 89 complaints of voter list irregularities were reported recently from Maharashtra; however, the commission is taking serious action. This demonstrates the Election Commission's zero-tolerance policy on transparency and accountability issues.
