The U.S. initially raised tariffs from 34% to 84%, then to 125%. Following a Chinese response, the U.S. has now imposed a 245% tariff. China has stated it is not afraid of a trade war.

Trade-War: The trade war between the U.S. and China has intensified. U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to impose a hefty 245% tariff on China. This tariff significantly surpasses previously imposed tariffs, escalating tensions between the two nations.

How did the tariff escalation begin?

On April 2nd, Trump announced a 34% tariff, prompting China to retaliate with an equivalent tariff. The U.S. subsequently increased tariffs to 84% and then 125%. China's subsequent countermeasures led to the U.S. imposing the 245% tariff, further intensifying the trade war.

China's Response: We are not afraid of a trade war

Following the imposition of the 245% tariff, China responded. Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that "China is not afraid of a trade war" and is prepared to continue. This clearly indicates China's readiness for a prolonged conflict and its unwillingness to yield to U.S. pressure.

Trump's Statement: "It's up to China to negotiate"

After escalating the tariff war, Trump stated in media interactions that it is now up to China to come to the negotiating table. He explicitly said, "The ball is now in China's court." Trump indicated that if China does not agree to a deal, the U.S. will continue its policy.

The U.S. accused other countries as well

In addition to China, the U.S. President accused India, Brazil, and several other countries of imposing high tariffs on American products. Trump stated his aim was to implement lower tariffs on imports from these countries to boost the American manufacturing sector and create jobs domestically.
