Afghanistan: A High-Risk Zone
According to UNOCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), Afghanistan has long been highly susceptible to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides. Decades of conflict and resource scarcity have left vulnerable communities ill-equipped to cope with these events.
Reports from the Red Cross indicate that Afghanistan's Hindu Kush Mountain Range is a geologically active area. This region lies between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, resulting in frequent earthquakes. Several fault lines exist between these plates, with one passing through the city of Herat.
