Pakistan targeted the Golden Temple with drones and missiles, but the Indian Army's air defense system thwarted all attacks, resulting in no damage.
Golden Temple: The Indian Army once again foiled a Pakistani plot, proving that the nation's security remains uncompromised. Following Operation Sindur, a frustrated Pakistan attempted to target Amritsar's Golden Temple and several other cities in Punjab with drone and missile attacks. However, the Indian Army's air defense systems prevented a single missile from reaching its target.
Pakistan's Frustration after Operation Sindur
This attack was Pakistan's retaliation for Operation Sindur, in which India precisely destroyed terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK. These Indian strikes neutralized several major bholds of organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Enraged by this, Pakistan launched an aerial attack using drones and missiles on the morning of May 8th.
Golden Temple was the Primary Target
Major General Karthik C. Seshadri, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army's 15th Infantry Division, stated that the drones and missiles launched by Pakistan primarily targeted the Golden Temple. The Army anticipated potential attacks on religious sites and residential areas, preemptively strengthening the air defense shield around the Golden Temple.
The Indian Army's Preparedness and Response
According to Major General Seshadri, the Indian Army was fully alert before the attack. As soon as Pakistan launched the missiles and drones, air defense gunners immediately responded, destroying all airborne weapons mid-flight. The Akash missile system and L-70 air defense guns were deployed in this operation.
He stated, "We did not allow a single missile or drone to reach its target. The Golden Temple was kept completely safe, and Pakistan's nefarious designs were completely foiled."
Air Defense Capabilities Demonstrated in a Live Demo
Following the attack, the Indian Army conducted a live demonstration showcasing how it intercepted and destroyed the Pakistani missiles and drones in mid-air. This demo clearly highlighted the Army's technical expertise and preparedness.
India's Responsible Stance
Major General Seshadri clarified that the Indian Army is a responsible force and never initiates attacks without provocation. Even during Operation Sindur, only terrorist bases were targeted, causing no harm to any Pakistani military base or civilian. Conversely, Pakistan, driven by revenge, targeted Indian religious sites without any legitimate objective.
He added, "Pakistan neither has the strength nor the courage to confront India. They use terrorism as a national policy, and their actions have already been exposed internationally."
