Violence in Nagpur Leaves Several Injured on Monday. Nitesh Rane Blames Abu Azmi, while CM Fadnavis Calls it Pre-planned.
Nagpur Violence: Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane on Tuesday blamed Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Azmi for the violence in Nagpur. Rane stated that the violence was a pre-planned attack aimed at discrediting the state government. Speaking to reporters, Rane asserted that Azmi had initiated the issue and was responsible for the ensuing violence. He further emphasized that those involved, especially those who assaulted police personnel, would not be spared under any circumstances.
Abu Azmi's Remarks on Aurangzeb
Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi recently made controversial remarks about Aurangzeb. He claimed that Aurangzeb was not a cruel ruler and had even constructed several temples. Azmi also argued that the conflict between Aurangzeb and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj stemmed from administrative issues rather than religious ones. This statement drew criticism. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske stated that CCTV footage clearly identifies those behind the violence. He mentioned that titles were visible on those engaged in stone-pelting, revealing their identities.
Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray Questions the State Government
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray also questioned the Nagpur violence. He asked the Chief Minister who was behind the violence and why it wasn't being taken seriously. Thackeray stated that the state has a "double engine" government, and if it is failing, it should resign. He further suggested that instead of focusing on removing Aurangzeb's tomb, the government should hold the Chief Minister accountable for the Nagpur violence.
CM Fadnavis Labels the Violence as Pre-planned
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis termed the Nagpur violence a pre-planned attack. He stated that rumors regarding the burning of religious scriptures fueled the violence. Fadnavis emphasized that no one is allowed to take the law into their own hands. He also expressed concern about the condition of injured police personnel, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), with one DCP suffering an axe attack.
Curfew and Strict Security Measures
Considering the tension in Nagpur city, a curfew has been imposed in several areas. This curfew is specifically in effect in areas like Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tahsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandavan, Imamwada, Yashodharanagar, and Kapilnagar. Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singhal has ordered the curfew to remain in place until further notice.
