PM Modi Yunus Bangkok: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Mohammed Yunus, the interim government's chief advisor in Bangladesh, in Bangkok. This meeting took place amidst strained relations between India and Bangladesh. PM Modi is currently in Thailand attending the BIMSTEC summit. Both leaders were also seen together at the official dinner held on Thursday. This meeting is considered highly significant in the context of India-Bangladesh relations.

India's Concern Over Persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh

Following the ousting of Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh, there has been a rise in attacks on the Hindu minority. Several instances of violence against the Hindu community have occurred under Mohammed Yunus's administration. India has expressed concern over these attacks, and it is expected that this issue was discussed extensively during the Bangkok meeting.

Mohammed Yunus's China Trip and Controversial Statements

Prior to the meeting, Mohammed Yunus was on a four-day trip to China, where he made controversial remarks regarding India's northeastern states. A video of him went viral, in which he referred to northeastern India as a "landlocked" region and claimed that Bangladesh is the sole guardian of this region's access to the sea. Indian leaders bly reacted to this statement, characterizing it as questioning India's sovereignty.

Growing Proximity to China

Bangladesh's increasing cooperation with China has become a matter of concern for India. The Bangladeshi government is consistently inviting China for investment and military agreements within the country. This has heightened concerns regarding the security of India's northeastern states, particularly Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. Recent reports have claimed that China is establishing villages in areas bordering Arunachal Pradesh.
