Bihar Commences Community Health Officer (CHO) Recruitment: 4500 Positions Available

The Bihar State Health Society (SHS) has commenced the application process for Community Health Officer (CHO) positions, starting May 5th, 2025. This recruitment drive presents a valuable opportunity for aspiring candidates in the healthcare sector.

Education: A significant step towards strengthening Bihar's healthcare infrastructure has been taken. The Bihar State Health Society (SHS) has initiated the recruitment process for 4500 Community Health Officer (CHO) positions. This recruitment will significantly bolster the staffing of Primary Health Centers (PHC) and Health & Wellness Centers (HWC) across the state with trained healthcare professionals, leading to anticipated improvements in healthcare services at the grassroots level.

Recruitment Process Commencement

The SHS has opened the online application process on May 5th, 2025, which will continue until 6 PM on May 26th, 2025. Candidates can apply through the department's official website: shs.bihar.gov.in. This recruitment is being undertaken under the National Health Mission (NHM) and is considered a crucial initiative to provide accessible healthcare services to the state's rural and semi-urban population.

Category-wise Vacancy Details

A total of 4500 positions will be filled under this recruitment drive. Representation from various categories has been ensured as per the reservation policy:

  • General Category - 979 posts
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS) - 245 posts
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) - 1243 posts
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) - 55 posts
  • Extremely Backward Class (EBC) - 1170 posts
  • Backward Class (BC) - 640 posts
  • Women Backward Class (WBC) - 168 posts

Additionally, 35% of the posts are reserved for women, while 4% are reserved for persons with disabilities and 2% for descendants of freedom fighters, as per state government regulations.

Educational Qualification and Age Limit

Only candidates possessing a B.Sc. Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree from a recognized institution are eligible for these positions. Candidates must also have completed an integrated course including community health training. The minimum age limit is 21 years, and the maximum age limit is 42 years. However, relaxation in the upper age limit will be provided to reserved category candidates as per the Bihar government's rules.
