Dr. Vineet Joshi appointed as the Acting Chairperson of UGC. He has assumed this responsibility temporarily following the retirement of Prof. M. Jagdish Kumar.

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has a new Acting Chairperson. Dr. Vineet Joshi, Secretary of the Department of Education, has been given the additional charge of the UGC, replacing Prof. M. Jagdish Kumar. He will hold this position until a permanent chairperson is appointed.

Joshi's Impressive Track Record in Education

Dr. Vineet Joshi is a 1992 batch IAS officer. He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIFT. Joshi has served in key positions such as Chief Secretary of Manipur, Resident Commissioner, and Chairman of CBSE.

Successful Exam Management as DG of NTA

Dr. Joshi served as the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) from December 2019 to November 2020. During this time, he successfully managed large-scale examinations like JEE Main, NEET, and UGC-NET, earning widespread praise for his exam management capabilities.

Educational Reforms Implemented at CBSE

Serving as the CBSE Chairman from February 2010 to November 2014, he implemented major systems like Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), a milestone in student-centric education.

M. Jagdish Kumar Completes his Tenure

Former UGC Chairman Professor M. Jagdish Kumar assumed the responsibility in February 2022. He retired on April 7, 2025, upon reaching the age of 65. Previously, he also served as the Vice-Chancellor of JNU.

Acting Chairperson Until Permanent Appointment

Dr. Vineet Joshi will continue in his role as Acting Chairman of the UGC until a new permanent chairperson is appointed. Given his experience in the education sector, many positive changes are anticipated.
