Despite South Africa's loss to New Zealand in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, star batsman David Miller etched his name in history with a breathtaking display of explosive batting.
Sports News: Even though South Africa lost to New Zealand in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, their star batsman David Miller created history with his explosive batting. Playing at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Miller smashed a century off just 67 balls, setting a new record for the fastest century in Champions Trophy history. In doing so, he also broke former explosive Indian opener Virender Sehwag's 13-year-old record.
Miller Makes His Mark
In 2002, Virender Sehwag set the record for the fastest century in the Champions Trophy with a century off 77 balls against England. In 2025, Australian batsman Josh English equalled this record, also scoring a century off 77 balls against England. However, on March 5th, 2025, David Miller surpassed both these legends by smashing a century in just 67 balls, becoming the fastest to reach a century in Champions Trophy history.
When David Miller came to bat, South Africa's score was 167 for 4 wickets, and the team was in a precarious position. He tried his best to steady the innings from one end, but wickets continued to fall from the other. Despite this, Miller continued his aggressive batting and finished his century with a double on the last ball.
Miller Joins the List of Oldest Century-Makers
Miller achieved this remarkable feat at the age of 35 years and 268 days. This makes him the second-oldest player to score a century in the Champions Trophy. Virat Kohli holds the top spot, scoring a century against Pakistan in the same tournament at the age of 36 years and 110 days.
