IPL 2025: CSK, MI, and SRH's Disappointing Starts
Last Updated: 1 day ago

While IPL 2025 began with thrilling matches, the poor performance of three major teams—Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)—has become a major talking point in the cricketing world.

Sports News: IPL 2025 is at its peak, with 18 matches played so far offering fans incredible action and thrills. However, the tournament's start has been incredibly disappointing for some big teams. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians, along with Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, have underperformed. All three teams have suffered three defeats in the initial phase, raising questions about their performance. Notably, CSK and SRH have lost three consecutive matches, a hat-trick of defeats that is a significant cause for concern.

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad started IPL 2025 with a resounding victory, defeating Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs in their first match. The team scored a massive 286 runs, raising hopes of a b tournament performance. However, they subsequently lost three consecutive matches, their batting collapsing completely.

With one win and three losses in four matches, SRH has only 2 points, placing them last (10th) in the points table. Their net run rate of -1.612 reflects their poor form.

2. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, have also had a poor start. Following a victory against Mumbai Indians at the beginning of the season, the team lost three consecutive matches. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad appears to be struggling strategically. CSK sits 9th with one win and three losses in four matches, and a net run rate of -0.891. Their defeat to RCB at Chepauk after 17 years and their first home loss to Delhi Capitals since 2010 are adding to their concerns.

3. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Mumbai Indians began their campaign under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, but suffered a defeat to Chennai in their first match. Despite Hardik Pandya's return to the captaincy, MI's fortunes didn't change, losing to Gujarat Titans by 36 runs. Mumbai has lost three out of four matches.

The team has only 2 points, but a net run rate of +0.108, better than the other two struggling teams. MI currently holds the 8th position in the points table.
