India made a spectacular start at the ISSF World Cup 2025, securing three medals on the very first day. Young shooter, Suruchi Singh, surprisingly won the gold medal in the women's 10m air pistol event, while veteran Olympian Manu Bhaker had to settle for silver.

On the opening day of this prestigious tournament in Lima, Indian shooters made a b start by winning three medals. In the women's 10m air pistol event, 18-year-old Suruchi Singh showcased a brilliant performance, winning the gold medal, while experienced shooter and Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker won the silver.

Suruchi scored 243.6 points in the final, 1.3 points more than Manu Bhaker, who scored 242.3. Yao Jianxun of China won the bronze medal in this event.

Suruchi's Triumphant Return, Defeats Manu Bhaker

The 18-year-old Suruchi Singh delivered an excellent performance in the final round, achieving the top position with a score of 243.6. She defeated Manu Bhaker by 1.3 points, who won silver with 242.3 points. Yao Jianxun of China had to settle for the bronze medal. Suruchi Singh qualified for the final with 582 points, securing second place, while Manu Bhaker qualified from fourth place with 578 points.

Reactions

After winning the gold, Suruchi Singh said, "I don't let pressure get to me. My focus is solely on my performance. I want to improve myself every time." Manu Bhaker, praising Suruchi, said, "The emergence of India's young shooters in this way is a matter of pride. Suruchi's performance was outstanding, and I hope she will achieve even greater heights in the future."

India's Dominance in the Men's Category

Saurabh Chaudhary won an individual ISSF medal after a two-year gap. He scored 219.1 in the men's 10m air pistol final and won the bronze medal. Hu Kai of China won gold with a score of 246.4, and Almeida Wu of Brazil won silver with 241 points. Indian shooter Varun Tomar finished fourth, while Akash Bharadwaj and Ravinder Singh scored 583 and 574 respectively, but did not reach the final.
