Soft Mawa Peda: A Deliciously Easy Recipe
Fresh, soft mawa peda is irresistible. Perfect for any festival or celebration, these sweet treats are incredibly flavourful and quick to make. If you enjoy traditional Indian sweets, this recipe is a must-try. You can easily make these melt-in-your-mouth mawa pedas at home, ensuring quality ingredients. The secret to a truly delicious peda lies in properly roasting the mawa.
Necessary ingredients
Mawa - 300 grams (1 1/2 cups)
Sugar (Gur) - 1 cup
Ghee - 1 tablespoon
Cardamom - 10
Pistachios - 10-12
Recipe
First, roast the mawa. Heat a pan, add the mawa. If the mawa is soft, add it as it is; otherwise, crumble it before adding. Add a little ghee, and stir the mawa over low heat until it turns light pink, stirring continuously with a spatula. Let it cool completely. Meanwhile, peel 4 cardamom pods and grind them into a powder. Chop the pistachios. Remove the seeds from the remaining cardamom pods.
Add the sugar (gur) and cardamom powder to the cooled mawa and mix well. The mixture is ready to be shaped into pedas. Take a small amount of the mixture, shape it into a round, flat disc, and place it on a plate. Repeat with the rest of the mixture. Place a pistachio and 3-4 cardamom seeds on top of each peda and gently press them in. Your mawa pedas are now ready. You can enjoy these delightful sweets during any festival or whenever you crave a sweet treat.
Some tips related to this
Roasting the mawa increases its shelf life.
A small amount of ghee is added to prevent the mawa from burning.
Do not mix the sugar (gur) with very hot or very cold mawa. If you mix it with very hot mawa, it will melt, resulting in uneven pedas.
If you mix it with very cold mawa, the mixture will crumble, and the pedas will lose their shape.
Peda molds make the process quicker. Hand-shaping takes slightly longer.
