BJP Leader Arjun Singh's Residence in Bhatpara, West Bengal, Targeted in Shooting and Bombing

West Bengal News: Unknown assailants launched a bomb attack and opened fire outside the residence of BJP leader and former MP Arjun Singh in Bhatpara, West Bengal, late Wednesday night. One young man was injured in the attack. Police reported on Thursday that while tension remains high in the area, the situation is under control.

Arjun Singh Chases Attackers

Arjun Singh and his associates attempted to apprehend the attackers, but they escaped. Barrackpore Police Commissioner Ajay Thakur issued a statement promising b action against the perpetrators.

Accusations Against TMC Councilor's Son

Former MP Arjun Singh accused Namit Singh, son of Trinamool Congress (TMC) councilor Sunita Singh, of orchestrating the attack. He claimed Namit Singh fired shots and indiscriminately threw bombs, even in the presence of police.

Link to Jute Mill Dispute?

Police sources suggest the violence stemmed from a conflict between two factions of workers at the Meghna Jute Mill. TMC MLA Somnath Shyam accused BJP leader Arjun Singh of instigating the violence, alleging that Singh and his supporters attacked workers, triggering the clash.

Namit Singh's Counter-Accusation

Namit Singh, son of the TMC councilor, countered that Arjun Singh and his men attacked mill workers and opened fire, injuring several people. He demanded Arjun Singh's arrest.

Details of the Attack

Arjun Singh recounted that around 10:30 PM, he heard gunshots and went outside. Upon reaching the scene, he was fired upon. Approximately five to seven rounds were fired. During the pursuit of the attackers, one individual fell into a drain and sustained injuries.

Police recovered several spent cartridges and live bombs from the scene. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed to maintain peace in the area. The injured young man was admitted to a Kolkata hospital in critical condition.
