Delhi Mayor Election 2025: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its decision to boycott the Delhi mayoral elections scheduled for April 25th. She attributed the decision to fear of defeat and internal strife within the party. She claimed that AAP has lost its grassroots support in Delhi and that people no longer trust the party.

Rekha Gupta's Statement

CM Rekha Gupta stated, "It's good that they realized in time that the tide is against them." She further added that the internal conflicts within the party and leaders being at odds with each other demonstrate AAP's declining political influence.

Accusation of Double Standards on Election Results

CM Gupta also accused AAP of employing double standards regarding election results. Victories are touted as indicators of popularity, while defeats are blamed on EVMs and the electoral system.

MCD Election Results and the Mayoral Election Scenario

In the previous Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, AAP won 134 wards, while the BJP won 104. However, the defection of AAP councilors and the support of some Congress councilors have strengthened the BJP's position in the MCD house. This situation significantly increases the BJP's chances of winning the upcoming mayoral election.

Mahesh Khichi's Victory and AAP's Current Standing

In the previous mayoral election, AAP's Mahesh Khichi won by a narrow margin, a victory attributed to cross-voting within the party. Currently, the MCD house comprises 125 AAP councilors, 115 BJP councilors, and 9 Congress councilors.

Importance of Women's Leadership in Education

Furthermore, CM Rekha Gupta highlighted the importance of women's leadership and education during the inauguration of Sankalp Girls Hostel for civil service aspirants in Adarsh Nagar Dheerpur. She stated, "The greatest charity is the gift of education," and emphasized the need to expand the hostel project to further support women civil service aspirants.
