Gorakhpur Junction Yard Remodeling Causes Major Disruptions to 122 Trains

Due to a yard remodeling project commencing at Gorakhpur Junction on Saturday, Indian Railways has implemented significant changes affecting the operation of 122 trains. This mega block may cause delays, cancellations, and route diversions for passengers over the next 22 days.

Railway: Non-interlocking work will be carried out at Gorakhpur Junction from Saturday until May 3rd as part of the yard remodeling, significantly impacting railway operations. During this 22-day period, rail services from Gorakhpur to Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Punjab, Jammu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Bengal will be affected. The railway administration has decided to divert 28 trains, while 35 trains will operate with intermediate halts.

Additionally, 13 trains will be delayed. Local passenger trains will be most affected. Approximately 25 passenger trains on the Gorakhpur-Gonda, Gorakhpur-Chhapra, and Gorakhpur-Narkatiaganj routes have been canceled.

Reason for the Mega Block?

Yard remodeling is being undertaken at Gorakhpur Junction as part of non-interlocking work to upgrade the station to a satellite station. This will implement an electronic interlocking system, making train operations smarter and faster. Railway officials state the aim is to facilitate the smooth operation of more trains in the future.

How Trains Will Be Affected?

28 trains will operate on altered routes.
35 trains will depart from intermediate stations.
13 trains will be delayed.
25 passenger trains (Gorakhpur-Gonda, Chhapra, Narkatiaganj routes) will be completely canceled.

Alternative Arrangements for Passengers

To minimize passenger inconvenience, the Roadways department will operate additional buses to help people reach their destinations. Railways has advised passengers to check train status before their journey.

Which Trains Will Resume Operations?

19037 Bandra Terminus-Barauni Express will now run on its scheduled route.
The cancellation of 19409 Sabarmati-Gorakhpur Express has been lifted; it will now run with a 240-minute delay and terminate at Basti station for some days.
19410 Gorakhpur-Sabarmati Express has also been reinstated; this train will depart from Basti.
