Major Road Accident in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh
A major road accident occurred in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, early Sunday morning. A luxury tourist bus traveling from Delhi to Kasol in Kullu overturned after colliding with a mountainside on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway, approximately four miles from its destination. The bus was carrying 38 passengers, 31 of whom sustained injuries. Two passengers are in critical condition and have been referred to the Ner Chowk Medical College for advanced treatment.
Bus Was Traveling at High Speed, Driver Lost Control
Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus was traveling at excessive speed, causing the driver to lose control. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mandi, Sagar Chand, stated that the accident occurred around 4:00 AM. The investigation will also determine whether driver fatigue or a mechanical fault contributed to the accident.
Rescue Teams Arrived Promptly on the Scene
Upon receiving reports of the accident, police, administration, and rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene. Local residents also assisted in rescuing the injured passengers and transporting them to hospitals via ambulances. The injured received first aid at various hospitals in Mandi.
Injured Passengers Include Tourists from Delhi and Surrounding Areas
Most of the passengers were tourists from Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) traveling to Kasol. Both men and women, aged between 20 and 47 years, were among the injured. Some passengers sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.
Government Orders Investigation
The Himachal Pradesh government has taken the accident seriously and ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The transport department has also been instructed to strictly enforce speed limits and enhance monitoring of bus companies.
