Lucknow Airport Closure: March 1st to July 15th
Lucknow Airport Closed: Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, will experience flight disruptions from March 1st to July 15th, 2025, due to runway modernization and repair work. The airport will be closed daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This work is commencing after receiving approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This will significantly impact numerous domestic and international flights.
Potential Passenger Inconvenience
The runway closure may cause considerable inconvenience to passengers, particularly those with pre-booked tickets. Direct flights from Lucknow to Dubai, Jeddah, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi are operational and may experience schedule changes.
Over 35 Flights Potentially Cancelled Daily
Lucknow Airport advises passengers to contact their respective airlines for flight status updates. It is estimated that 35 or more flights could be cancelled daily during this period. In January 2024, Lucknow Airport handled an average of over 20 international and approximately 109 domestic flights daily. During that time, international passenger numbers exceeded 1.09 lakh, and domestic passenger numbers surpassed 4.77 lakh.
Flights to Operate from Kanpur Airport
Indigo Airlines operates the highest number of flights from Lucknow. Sources suggest that 6 to 8 Indigo flights will be diverted to Kanpur Airport. Other airlines, including Air India and Vistara, are also rescheduling services. Passengers are advised to check flight schedules before booking tickets.
When Will Flights Resume Normally?
The entire repair and construction project is scheduled for completion by July 15th, 2025. Until then, flight operations will be allowed before 10:00 AM and after 6:00 PM.
Runway Improvements
This is the first resurfacing of Lucknow Airport's runway since 2018. The project involves removing the old layer and laying a new asphalt layer, enhancing runway strength and reducing the risk of aircraft accidents. The work will cover a total area of 1.80 lakh square meters, encompassing the runway and taxiways.
Benefits of the Upgrades
Lucknow Airport's current runway measures 2,744 meters in length and 45 meters in width. The construction of a new parallel taxiway will facilitate faster aircraft movement, leading to more efficient flight operations. Outdated halogen lights will be replaced with LEDs, resulting in energy savings and improved runway visibility.
