The skeleton of a woman was found inside a burnt-out car on the Niti-Malari border road near Tapovan, Joshimath. The incident has created a climate of fear in the area, and a heavy police presence has been deployed at the scene.
Suspicion of Murder
The car, registered in Karnataka, was reportedly seen by locals on Saturday morning with a young man and woman inside. It had also been sighted in Joshimath on Friday. The car owner has been identified as Santosh Kumar Senapati, a resident of Bangalore.
The woman's remains were found charred inside the vehicle. The man who was with her is missing, leading police to suspect murder.
Ongoing Investigation, Police Scrutiny
Chamoli's Superintendent of Police, Servesh Panwar, confirmed that police received information at 7:00 AM about the discovery of the charred remains inside the car near Chanchdi village. Police secured the scene, conducted a panchnama (official inspection), and sent the body for post-mortem examination. A forensic team is investigating, and a thorough probe into all aspects of the case is underway.
