Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, remains in serious condition. The 88-year-old Pope is battling complications including a lung infection and anemia. He has been hospitalized at Rome's Gemelli hospital for the past week, with doctors closely monitoring his health. Experts have warned that his condition is not yet out of danger.

Severe Lung Infection and Anemia

Pope Francis was admitted to the hospital on February 14th following a bout of bronchitis. Initial examinations revealed pneumonia affecting both lungs. Doctors reported that he also suffered from anemia, requiring a blood transfusion. They stated that the infection has impacted his breathing capacity, necessitating oxygen support.

'Danger Not Yet Averted' – Doctors Warn

According to doctors, Pope Francis has a 'polymicrobial' infection, caused by various types of bacteria. This infection can weaken the respiratory system and lead to sepsis. While there were no signs of sepsis by Friday, physicians maintain the situation remains critical.

Prayers Continue at the Vatican for the Pope's Health

Following news of Pope Francis's ill health, his followers in the Vatican and around the world are offering prayers for his speedy recovery. A Vatican spokesperson stated, "We are hopeful for an improvement in the Pope's health. Currently, the medical team is making every possible effort." This is not the first time Pope Francis has faced serious health challenges. He was hospitalized last year due to a respiratory infection. In 2021, he underwent major colon surgery, which also impacted his health.

Could the Pope Resign?

The Pope's deteriorating health has fueled speculation about his future. Some experts believe that if his health does not improve, he may voluntarily resign from his post. However, no official statement has been released by the Vatican on this matter.
