Delhi BJP Demands Murder Charges Against AAP Over Air Pollution

During a two-day discussion in the Legislative Assembly on the CAG report regarding vehicular air pollution in Delhi, BJP MLAs criticized the previous AAP government.

Delhi Politics: During the assembly's discussion on air pollution, BJP MLAs demanded the filing of murder charges against the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The BJP alleged that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government's actions led to increased air pollution in Delhi, resulting in numerous deaths. The BJP claimed that pollution is reducing life expectancy and negatively impacting newborns.

Previous Government Held Responsible for Pollution

BJP MLAs stated that the previous AAP government failed to take concrete steps to curb pollution, resulting in poor air quality and fatalities. They argued that the former Kejriwal government should face murder charges for this negligence. Delhi's current Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, presented a comprehensive action plan to combat pollution in the assembly.

She announced the implementation of new policies to control vehicular pollution. Furthermore, measures include expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and stricter enforcement of vehicular pollution under control (PUC) certificates.

Steps to Control Pollution

* 11,000 New Buses: 11,000 buses will be deployed on Delhi's roads by 2026.
* 70 Lakh Saplings: 70 lakh new saplings will be planted this year to increase green cover.
* Water Sprinkling Machines: 1,000 water sprinkling machines will be deployed to control pollution.
* Electric Charging Points: 48,000 charging points will be established by 2026.
* Integrated Command Center: An integrated command and control center will be established to monitor traffic congestion and pollution.
* Landfill Site Removal: Waste disposal will be carried out in a timely manner.
* CCTV Surveillance: 500 new CCTV cameras will be installed at major traffic junctions.

12 AAP MLAs Suspended

AAP MLAs protested, demanding the resignation of Law Minister Kapil Mishra during the assembly session. Speaker Vijendra Gupta suspended 12 AAP MLAs for disrupting the proceedings. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that efforts will be made at all levels to control pollution. She added that the CAG report has been sent to the Public Accounts Committee for investigation, with a report expected within three months. The BJP demanded that if the report reveals negligence by the previous government, murder charges should be filed.
