New Delhi: A major update has come in the well-known Sagar Dhankhar murder case that occurred at Delhi's Chhatrasal Stadium. The Delhi High Court has granted regular bail to Sushil Kumar, an Olympic medal-winning professional wrestler. Sushil Kumar was arrested in May 2021 and had been in judicial custody for three years. Prior to this, he was granted a 7-day interim bail in July 2023 for knee surgery. The court's decision to grant him regular bail has provided considerable relief.

What transpired?

On the night of May 4-5, 2021, professional wrestler Sagar Dhankhar was murdered at Chhatrasal Stadium. According to the police chargesheet, Sushil Kumar and his associates first abducted Sagar Dhankhar and his companions. They then locked the stadium doors from inside and beat them for approximately 40 minutes with sticks, hockey sticks, and baseball bats. The assault was so brutal that Sagar Dhankhar died, and other victims sustained serious injuries.

The Stadium Transformed into a Torture Chamber

The Delhi Police investigation revealed that Sagar Dhankhar and his friends were abducted from two separate locations and brought to Chhatrasal Stadium, where Sushil Kumar and his associates were waiting. The stadium gates were locked from the inside, and security personnel on duty were instructed to leave. Subsequently, the victims were surrounded and brutally attacked.

The Root of the Conflict: Gangster Connections

The police investigation also revealed that the conflict was not limited to a personal dispute; it involved a larger game of property, illegal occupation, and extortion. The investigation further found that groups associated with Sushil Kumar and Sagar Dhankhar had links to notorious gangsters Kala Jatheri and Neeraj Bawania.

Considering the extensive investigation into the case and Sushil Kumar's prolonged custody, the court decided to grant him bail. However, the bail is subject to certain conditions, including refraining from leaving the country and cooperating with investigating agencies. Despite Sushil Kumar's bail, the case is far from over. Hearings will continue, and everyone awaits the court's subsequent decisions.
