Introducing the Inspiring Story: Separating Sugar from Sand

Emperor Akbar, Birbal, and all the ministers were seated in the court. The court proceedings were underway. People from the kingdom were bringing their problems to the court one by one. Meanwhile, a man entered the court, a jar in his hand. Everyone looked at the jar, and Akbar asked, "What is inside this jar?" The man replied, "Your Majesty, it contains a mixture of sugar and sand." Akbar asked, "And why?" The man explained, "Forgive my audacity, Your Majesty, but I have heard many tales of Birbal's intelligence. I wish to test him. I want Birbal to separate every grain of sugar from this sand without using water." Everyone turned to Birbal, curious and perplexed.

Akbar then turned to Birbal and said, "Birbal, how will you demonstrate your wisdom in front of this man?" Birbal smiled and said, "Your Majesty, it is a simple task." Everyone wondered how Birbal would separate the sugar from the sand. Birbal then rose, took the jar, and walked towards the garden of the palace. The man followed him.

Birbal reached a mango tree in the garden. He began to spread the mixture of sugar and sand all around the base of the tree. The man asked, "What are you doing?" Birbal replied, "You will see tomorrow." They returned to the palace. Everyone eagerly awaited the next morning.

The next day, at the court, Akbar, the ministers, Birbal, and the man who brought the mixture went to the garden. They gathered near the mango tree. What they saw astonished them. Only sand remained on the ground. The sugar had been gathered by ants and taken into their nests, with a few ants still carrying grains of sugar back to their homes. The man asked, "Where did the sugar go?" Birbal replied, "The sugar has been separated from the sand." Everyone burst into laughter. Seeing Birbal's ingenuity, Akbar said to the man, "If you need the sugar, you will have to enter the ants' nests." Everyone laughed and praised Birbal.
