Following the Election Commission's announcement to revise the voter list, Bihar's Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, has bly reacted. Tejashwi has termed the move an attack on democracy, raising several serious questions.
Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Bihar's politics has heated up once again, this time due to the Election Commission's decision to revise the voter list. Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has bly objected to this, calling it an attack on democracy and accusing the NDA government of a deep conspiracy. Tejashwi claims that this process is a plot to remove voters from the poor, marginalized, and backward classes from the list.
Speaking at a press conference in Patna on Monday, Tejashwi Yadav asked, "Why is the Election Commission in such a hurry? When this process is happening after 22 years, how will it be completed in 25 days? When the new voter list was prepared across the country in 2003, it took two years to complete. In such a hurry, suspicion is bound to arise."
Tejashwi directly attacked the BJP, saying that efforts are being made to snatch the right to vote from the poor and marginalized sections. He said, "This is an insult to both the constitution and democracy. The BJP knows that the poor, laborers, and Dalits vote against it, so a conspiracy is being hatched to remove their names from the list."
Mahagathbandhan to approach Election Commission
Tejashwi Yadav clearly stated at the press conference that a delegation of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) would soon meet the Election Commission and register its objection to the decision. He said that the commission should maintain transparency and not rush in a way that could lead to the disappearance of the names of crores of voters.
Tejashwi said, "If the Election Commission wants to update the voter list, then give time, make the process transparent, but this is not possible in 25 days. This is just an attempt to suppress the voice of the poor and the exploited."
Tejashwi lashed out at the BJP
Tejashwi Yadav, taking a dig at the BJP, said, "The BJP is against the poor and backward sections, this has been proved time and again. Now that they feel defeat is certain, they are trying to weaken democracy by tampering with the voter list." He said that the people of Bihar are watching everything and will surely respond at the right time. Tejashwi also said that the NDA government is afraid of defeat in the 2025 assembly elections, so a conspiracy is being hatched to sabotage the vote bank.
Several leaders gathered at the press conference
Several senior leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal were present on the occasion, including party spokesperson Shakti Yadav, MP Sanjay Yadav, former minister Vijay Prakash, former MLA Ajay Pratap, Triveni Yadav, Shamshad Alam, Ravindra Mandal, and Ashok Kushwaha. Everyone supported Tejashwi's stance and said that this is a dangerous sign for democracy.
Tejashwi Yadav said that the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar will stand firmly to protect the rights of the people and will also take to the streets if necessary. After the press conference, Tejashwi Yadav left to attend the 'Hul Diwas ceremony' organized in Chakai. There too, he raised the same issue in discussions with the people and advised the public to be vigilant.
