The state government proposed this ambitious project in the 2025 budget, outlining the launch of a satellite called "ASSAMSAT." It will be developed with the cooperation of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe).

IN-SPACe works to promote private investment and innovation in India's space sector, making Assam's initiative a significant addition to the nation's space program. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a budget of ₹450-500 crore for this project. The satellite will prove useful in critical areas such as agriculture, disaster management, security, infrastructure, and border surveillance.

* GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle): Deploys satellites weighing over 2200 kg into geostationary orbit.
* SSLV (Small Satellite Launch Vehicle): Ideal for small satellites at a lower cost.

Either GSLV or PSLV may be used for this mission to place the satellite in its designated orbit.
