In the Rajya Sabha, AAP MP Raghav Chadha raised concerns about poor banking services, hidden charges, and cyber fraud. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman jokingly appreciated his interest in banking matters, prompting a smile from Chadha.
New Delhi: In the Rajya Sabha, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha posed several pointed questions to the government regarding the functioning of banks. He stated that public sector banks are losing public trust and their services are continuously deteriorating. He also expressed concern over the lack of banking facilities in rural areas, poor customer service, and the rising number of cyber frauds.
Finance Minister's Humorous Response
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded to Raghav Chadha's remarks in a light-hearted manner. She said, "I am pleased that Raghav Chadha ji not only monitored banking services, but also closely observed aspects such as the number of fans, wall paint, and other small details in banks.
It is satisfying to see that members busy with international affairs are also visiting rural banks." She further stated that Chadha's international experience could benefit the citizens. Raghav Chadha was seen smiling at this statement by the Finance Minister.
Emphasis on Customer-Related Banking Issues
On Wednesday, in the Rajya Sabha, Raghav Chadha also raised questions about the hidden charges levied by banks on customers. He said that ordinary citizens are being charged extra on their hard-earned money without their knowledge. He sought answers from the government on charges such as minimum balance charges, ATM transaction fees, SMS alert charges, and statement charges.
Questions on Lack of Banking Facilities in Rural Areas
Raghav Chadha also raised questions about the limited banking facilities in rural areas. He pointed out that banking services have not yet expanded to many remote areas, causing significant hardship to the rural population. He urged the government to take concrete steps in this direction.
