Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri's 'Dhadak 2' has done a total business of Rs 7.1 crore in two days. The film's slow pace due to not getting the expected start has been a setback for the makers.
Box Office Report: In Bollywood, presenting social issues as romantic dramas is a long-standing tradition, and in this vein comes Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri's new film 'Dhadak 2'. Although a lot was expected from this film, based on a big banner, b acting, and a sensitive subject, its journey at the box office has not been particularly impressive so far. While Ishaan Khattar and Janhvi Kapoor's 'Dhadak', which came out in 2018, had a tremendous opening, 'Dhadak 2' seems to be losing its momentum within the first two days.
Slow Start on the First Day
'Dhadak 2' hit theaters on Friday. The film received a mixed response from the audience on the first day, and this was reflected in its box office collection. According to trade reports, the film earned around Rs 3.35 crore on the first day. Looking at this figure, it is clear that the initial enthusiasm among the audience for the film was not as expected by the makers.
Film Didn't Shine on Saturday Either
The biggest opportunity for the film was its first weekend, when audience attendance usually increases. But on Saturday, the film's earnings saw only a slight increase. According to reports, the film did a business of approximately Rs 3.75 crore on Saturday. Thus, the total earnings for the first two days have been approximately Rs 7.1 crore. This figure clearly shows that the film is currently lagging behind in terms of its publicity and star power.
Strong Starcast, Yet Why a Weak Impact?
Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri are both young and talented actors. Tripti has received praise for films like 'Bulbul' and 'Qala', while Siddhant came into the limelight with 'Gully Boy'. Both of their performances are being praised, but the lack of pace in the story and emotional connection has failed to draw audiences to the theaters. This film, based on serious issues like casteism and honor killing, tries to deliver a powerful message, but the lack of depth in the script and screenplay has prevented a connection with the audience.
Comparison with 'Dhadak' Became a Challenge
The 2018 'Dhadak' was successful in making an excellent start at the box office. In the first two days alone, the film had done business of approximately Rs 16 crore. 'Dhadak 2', on the other hand, has not even reached half of this figure. This comparison has somehow increased the pressure on the new version.
What are the Hopes for the Makers Now?
Now everything depends on Sunday and the coming weekdays. If the film earns Rs 4.5 to 5 crore on Sunday, it could reach around Rs 12 crore in its first weekend. However, this figure would still be considered average. The biggest challenge for the makers now is word-of-mouth publicity. If the film's message impresses people and there is positive discussion on social media, it is possible that it may survive until next week.
